6 Steps That Help Conquer Cancer

Often thought of as the 'end-all' of diseases, cancer is amazingly not a disease at all. It's actually a process, discovered in over 200 diseases collectively named as cancers. Don't feel bad, however, if you don't have every fact when dealing with the different types of cancer. Most are seen as treatable, and modern research has rendered more than a few as curable. And, since the offending cells need a bit of a 'push' before reaching the stage where they cause cancer, you can eliminate many risk factors by avoiding the best-known causes.

1) Alcohol: Continuous heavy drinking can depress the body's immune system, and is a major contributor to mouth, breast, and liver cancer. The usual rule of thumb should be--no more than 1 drink a day for women, and no more than 2 a day for men. This being said, binge drinking should be avoided at all costs.

2) Poor Eating Habits: Bad diet choices can ultimately rob your body of vital nutrients, which aid in retarding cancer cell growth. Some diets have also been known to contain foods that are cancer promoters. Steer clear of all processed foods, and instead embrace diets that advocate large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables.

3)Tobacco: FACT- ALL tobacco products are now known to be cancer causes, not just the traditional whipping-boy, cigarettes! Pipes, cigars, and yes, cigarettes contribute heavily to mouth, throat, and lung cancers. Chewing tobacco leads to mouth cancer, and smoking lends a not-so-helping hand in causing other types of cancer as well.

4)Toxins: Can all toxins somehow be avoided? Not really, but an excellent strategy involves limiting exposure to things that are known to be unhealthy. If you're not sure of the risk factor of items that are a part of your daily routine, then research of those items should be in order.

5)Stress: If you are plagued by constant stress, then your immune system is ripe for a breakdown, which in turn may lead to your body being unable to combat cancer. Learn to practice self-relaxation techniques, and should those fail, then there are several programs available that offer hands-on approaches to guidance.

6)Exposure To Sunlight: Research has shown that overexposure to sunlight can cause skin cancer, and contributes to other cancers as well. Too much ultraviolet light has been thought to weaken the body's immune system, preventing it from fighting cancerous cell growth.

When it comes to dealing with cancer, knowledge of its triggers and of ways to deal with them is a formidable weapon indeed. As it is with so many other obstacles, the worst enemy is the fear of cancer itself. And the best antidote for that fear is preparation, information, and foresight.
