Cancer affects all of us. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.4 million new cases of diagnosed cancer will occur this year alone. In 2004, there were approximately 10.8 million people who had a history of cancer. Last year the cost of cancer was estimated to be over $200 Billion dollars! Cancer does affect all of us, either directly or indirectly.
Participating in one or more cancer walks in your area is a great way to join the fight against cancer and have fun at the same time. Through your participation in these cancer walk events, you can help raise funds for a worthy cause and raise public awareness about a serious disease.
One of the great things about charity walks is that almost anyone can participate. Also, walking is a fun exercise, especially when you are doing it with a group of generous people.
What are some things you should consider when selecting a charity walk?
1. Choose a walk that is a comfortable distance for you. Cancer walks range in the length of the route. Some are accomplished over reasonably short distances, while others stretch out over a few days. If you have a difficult time walking one mile, don't sign up to walk for ten miles (unless you sign up well in advance and safely work up to it). If the distance of a walk is too far for you, check to make sure that a shorter, alternate route is not also planned. This is a part of some walkathons to make sure most everyone can participate.
2. Choose a walk that supports a specific cause you are passionate about. There are many forms of cancer. Some walks are conducted to support the fight against a specific form of cancer, while other walks support organizations that address a large number of cancer diseases.
3. Choose a walk that supports a charity you are comfortable with. There are many charitable organizations raising funds through walkathons. Each is different in how they use the money raised by the event. A little research regarding the organization can give you a peace of mind about the time, energy and money you provide.
4. Don't feel you are limited to participating in one cancer walk. A significant percent of the people who participate in one walkathon are known to participate in others.
Even if you are not a cancer researcher or doctor, there is something that can be done to support the fight against cancer. Find a cancer walk near you and support it in any way you can.

Cancer and the pH miracle diet
One of the most important points of the pH miracle diet is that cancer can be prevented and reversed by applying the principles of the diet. Although these statements have caused some controversy in the world of health and wellness, many people credit the use of the pH miracle diet in reversing their cancer and improving their overall level of health.
According to Dr. Robert Young, the creator of the pH miracle diet, cancer is not a sickness or a disease as commonly thought. It is an effect of the metabolic acids that are built up in the blood and then released into the tissues. Cancer, according to Dr. Young, is actually an acidic liquid that spills into the cells, tissues and organs. It is not a mutation of the cells.
No condition happens without a cause. There are clear and direct causes for cancer, and as the pH miracle diet books show, the cause for cancer lies in over acidity. Diseases like cancer are due to systemic acidosis, which is extremely low pH (below 7.4). Any pH below 7.0 is considered acidic, and the lower the pH is the higher the acidity level in a person’s body is.
At the cellular level, your cells consume the food that you eat and produce metabolic acids. Those acids are normally expelled by the body through sweat or urine. When you consume a vast amount of acidic foods and lead a lifestyle that produces even more acidity, your body does not know what to do with the rest of the acid waste. When you eat highly acidic foods on a regular basis, your body simply does not have enough energy to get rid of the excess acids. They collect in the body, and create disruptions at the cellular level.
Metabolic acids are first kept in the blood and then they are kept in the tissues. When acid is kept in the tissue, it causes sickness, disease and cancerous tissues. Cancer is the acidic liquid from metabolism that pools in the body. It affects the cells around it and, like a rotten apple in a barrel, the effects spread from cell to cell causing disease. Cancer is not made of mutated cells. The cells themselves do not change form but they are limited in their function due to the presence of excess metabolic acid. There is no such thing as “cancer cells”; the cells are actually normal cells that have become highly acidic.
One of the most surprising parts of the relationship between pH and cancer is that tumors are in fact trying to help the body. They form in areas where the metabolic acid is becoming rampant and effecting cellular function. Tumors are your body’s attempt to prevent the spreading of the acidic cells to other parts of the body. The tumor is actually a signpost to where your body is collecting excess metabolic acid. Some people are genetically predisposed to collect metabolic acid in certain places. This is why some families have a history of, for example, breast cancer.
The tumors themselves are not the problem, but are just signs of what is going wrong in that part of the body. When cancer metastasizes, it is a sign of the acidic condition moving to other cells and making them acidic as well.
Cancer is not something that people get out of the blue. Cancer forming in the body is a sign of the choices that we make in what we eat, what we drink and how we live. An alkaline lifestyle that focuses on an alkaline diet and other calming behaviors will be much less likely to produce cancer, if it does at all. An acidic lifestyle and diet will be full of the pains of the build up of metabolic acid which can, in extremes, lead to cancer.
That is exciting news because it means that cancer is preventable and treatable. A cancer patient can start taking steps toward reversing the effects of cancer and preventing the spread of it. His or her alkaline centered diet may be more aggressive than someone’s who is just trying to get better overall health. However, by applying the principles of the pH miracle diet they can effectively reduce, control and eliminate cancer from their bodies.

Breast Cancer Prevention - Learn How To Prevent Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is two words that no one wants to hear in their life. While many believe this comes on out of nowhere, there are some things that you can do to work toward breast cancer prevention. Not that this will completely remove the possibility of contacting this deadly disease but it can drastically reduce your chances of getting it.
Among the easiest things you have control over is your diet and exercise regimen. A strong link to breast cancer is alcohol. While it really does not matter what type of alcohol you drink, it is essential you take care of your body and limit your alcohol consumption to less than one drink a day.
In addition to your diet and exercise, try to stay as physically active as possible. By maintaining a healthy weight through a healthy diet and staying active, you can lower your risk of breast cancer. Try to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise three to four times a week.
The next thing to look at with breast cancer prevention is hormone therapy. Long-term use can undermine preventing breast cancer, which makes it vital for you take the time to talk with your doctor about discontinuing long-term hormone therapy. Long-term treatment with estrogen-progestin combinations can also be detrimental toward preventing breast cancer.
Unlike what you may have heard, there is no concrete evidence to support the link that birth control pill causes breast cancer risk. Many study have identified a very weak link between these pills and the occurrence of breast cancer. As a matter of fact, the incidences of breast cancer from the use of birth control pills is about 4.7 women out of 10,000 at the most. Therefore, women should not worry themselve too much in the use of birth control pills for contraceptive purposes.
The last thing you want to be aware of is the link between breast cancer and exposure to pesticides and unnecessary antibiotics. Although research is not conclusive, you should be aware of the link between the two. The molecular structure of some pesticides resembles that of estrogen. In addition, scientists have found a link between antibiotic use and breast cancer. The longer antibiotics are used, the greater the risk is of getting breast cancer.
Paying attention to the different breast cancer prevention methods is vital to avoid having to face this devastating disease down the road. Taking control of your health and lifestyle can have positive effects on your life. Take note of the tips listed in this article to help you prevent getting breast cancer.

Applications in Cancer Treatment
A cure for cancer exists through the use of yoga, a San Antonio, Texas, cancer specialist said during a seminar in Oklahoma City in the 1980s.
But physicians refused to acknowledge the cure, said Col. Hansa Raval, M.D., a pathologist with the United States Army. Dr. Raval said her work in cytotechnology _ a diagnostic branch of medicine designed to pinpoint early stages of cancer _ was fruitless until she began researching the use of non-conventional methods of treatment.
The specialist said she witnessed the use of Raja yoga and meditation cure crippling arthritis, headaches and even cancer.
And even though Raval offers proof, which she said was collected during two years of study at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in India, she has been dismissed by other members of the medical profession as a kook.
Yoga's success as a treatment method is due to another hypothesis Raval proposes that 98 percent of all cancer is psychosomatic.
This is not chanting or mantra reciting, the physician said. It's not based on scriptures. It's not a cult. It's not biofeedback. It's deeper than that. This is a full-proof method of meditation, a detailed understanding of what the soul is.
Raval maintains that medical schools belittle the study of non-conventional methods of cancer treatment in favor of conventional methods such as radiation, chemotherapy, and treatment through machines.'
Medical schools teach students that the human being is only a body. But the mind has the power to cure the body. By definition, psychosomatic means a combination of mind, or soul and body.
The soul creates the disease, but the body suffers. If the psyche creates the disease, the only way to cure it is through the psyche. It's a very simple formula: treating the seed of the problem.
Further, studies in parapsychology all point to the treatment of illness through treatment of the soul.
The World Spiritual University, which has branches in 30 countries, teaches peace and perfection for health and happiness through the use of Raja yoga. The university gained status as a non-governmental member of the United Nations and has offices at the U.N. building in New York.
Raja yoga teaches students to search their soul world for answers on where they came from and why the cancer entered their body. They learn what role religion, stress, family and lifestyle played in the cancer.

Simple Steps for Colon Cancer Prevention
Colon cancer (also known as bowel cancer or colorectal cancer) is any cancer that affects the last section of the digestive system (usually the colon or rectum. It is one of the most prominent cancers in the UK and is responsible for over 16,000 deaths each year. In this article I will be outlining the signs, the symptoms, the treatments and the things you can do for effective bowel cancer prevention.
Most cancers of the colon develop from polyps (fleshy growths) in the intestine. The majority of these polyps are harmless but some become become cancerous. If left untreated the cancer in these polyps spreads to the colon and in the worst cases other areas of the body too.
Unfortunately it is not known what causes these polyps to become cancerous but there are a number of associated colon cancer risks. Age is a major risk factor with over three quarters of bowel cancers occurring in people who are over 60 years old. Diet is another significant bowel cancer risk factor with excessive consumption of red meats and alcohol and a low fibre intake all linked to the development of this cancer. Other factors that increase your risk of contracting this cancer include a family history of the disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, a lack of exercise and smoking.
If cancer does develop it is often accompanied by a number of symptoms. These colon cancer symptoms are often quite mild in the beginning but get worse as the cancer grows. Some of the symptoms are directly associated with the growth of the cancer and include abdominal pain, bloody stools, changing bowel movements and rectal bleeding. Rectal bleeding in particular is one of the most common symptoms so if you notice any bleeding from this area you should consult your doctor immediately. Other less obvious symptoms include unexplained tiredness and weight loss.
If you suspect that you have bowel cancer based on the above symptoms you should consult your doctor immediately. They will then be able to perform the necessary tests. The first test is usually a rectal exam where your doctor will feel for any lumps or swollen polyps using a gloved finger. Your doctor may then recommend a colonoscopy, which involves the passing of a small fibre optic camera into your anus, so that they can visual examine your colon.
If any of the tests reveal that you have bowel cancer your doctor will start you on a treatment program. The treatment offered will be dependent upon whether the cancer is in the early stages or has become more advanced. Early stage colon cancer is much more treatable than a cancer that has become advanced.
Surgery is the most common treatment for bowel cancer with the procedure attempting to extract the cancerous cells from the colon and then stitch it back together. Chemotherapy (the use of anti-cancer medications) and radiotherapy (the use of high energy radiation beams) are sometimes used as colon cancer treatments but are more commonly used to help shrink the cancerous cells prior to surgery and then to reduce the risk of the cancer returning after surgery.
Although this cancer can be treated, prevention is a much more attractive and uncomplicated option, plus it is not that difficult It simply involves making a few positive lifestyle changes. Exercising regularly is believed to reduce your risk by as much as 40%. Reducing your red meat and alcohol intake whilst eating more fruits, vegetables and other fibre rich foods can also help prevent colon cancer. Giving up smoking is another important lifestyle change for the prevention of both bowel cancer and other cancers too.
I hope this article has helped you learn about the symptoms and risk factors for bowel cancer BUT most importantly I hope it inspires you to actively participate in cancer prevention by improving your lifestyle. Try and eat a balanced diet that contains plenty of fruits and vegetables, try and do some physical activity every day and if you smoke start working towards giving up. Whilst we still do not know exactly what causes this disease, these lifestyle changes can go a long way towards preventing it.
Whilst every intention has been made to make this article accurate and informative, it is intended for general information only. Colon cancer is a very serious, life threatening condition and you should discuss any concerns, treatments or lifestyle changes fully with your doctor.
